The Year of the Hangman (Post 1)

"A pair of hands seized his arms, pinning them behind his back, and a stout arm clamped around his neck, forcing his head back" (13).

So far this book is a real page turner! In The Year of the Hangman, the author offers up another possible result of the Revolutionary War. This book is written as if the Americans never won the war and the outcome of the rest of the war is still up for grabs. So far the book takes place in a little British town in 1777. The protagonist of the book is a fifth teen year old boy named Creighton Brown, who is a member of the upper class and very spoiled. His mother on the other hand is a widow that is having a hard time making ends meet. To make things worse his mom is tired of his actions and hires a group of people to kidnap him. One night when he comes home from a poker party three men jump him in his house and tie him up. When Creighton wakes up he is aboard a British War Ship named the Amity. He then finds out that his mother is tired of his behavior and is sending him off to live in the colonies with his Uncle that he has never met. Once in the colonies, Creighton realizes that the colonies aren’t as bad as he thought. At the end of my reading the question that faces Creighton, is how am I going to get back home?
