“I took a chance on you, kid. I hadn’t realized I was such a big risk. And you didn’t let me down. You know why? Because I have heart? NO because you were desperate. I was? He leaned against the wall next to the poster of our new Gladstone leather walking sandal that basically turned a common man into a mountain goat for $79.95. See desperation is the driving force in finding work. You’ve got to know you want work; you’ve got to know you need it. And when you’ve figured that out, you’ve got to take the steps and take the chances to make it happen. A desperate person is a hungry person. You follow me?”(27)
This is when Mrs. Gladstone the owner of Gladstone shoes is on the phone with Tanner, a kid that is asking her for a job and Mrs. Gladstone comes to Jenna about it. Mrs. Gladstone is a very good person and likes to help kids that need jobs. Kind of like Jenna, Jenna wasn’t the best kid she was young a hard worker and did her job very well. Now that Tanner, another teenager is coming to Mrs. Gladstone for help but she is scared because it is a big risk. You don’t know if they will be a good worker or if they will steal you just hope for the best and not the worst. Overall I really like this book, at first it started off a little slow and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not, but now I am starting to like it a lot more.
